Peri-operative optimisation of patients undergoing laparoscopic colectomy
Primary Research Interest for Mr Ralph Smith Laparoscopic Fellow 2009/2011
The majority of Surgeons currently performing minimal access surgery use a two-dimensional image. Achieving precision performance requires interpretation of monoscopic visual cues to appreciate depth within the operative field and may impair skill acquistion rates during the learning phase. My research investigates the role of current sterescopic visual systems in minimal access surgery and focuses on the ocular and cognitive processes that are effected when surgeons perceive a sense of stereopsis.
