Introduction to Gynaecological Robotic Surgery
60% of hysterectomies in the UK are still performed open. Robotic surgery in the USA has successfully overcome unnecessary open surgery in prostatectomy and oncological hysterectomy already and is rapidly expanding as surgeons acquire the skills to perform minimal access surgery more readily with robotics. This two day course is suitable for up to 8 Gynaecologists who are thinking of starting a da Vinci robotic surgery programme or are doing their initial cases, and wish to learn how to get the best out of the system. The course will cover lectures on developing a business case and starting a programme, an overview of the system, setting up and instrumentation, the gynaecological applications of robotics, a practical dry session to experience the capabilities of enhanced vision, precision and ergonomics, and live 3D surgery transmitted from the Royal Surrey County Hospital into the MATTU.
